Washington Anytime Library / OverDrive / Libby

Don't be confused - all three of these names refer to the same service! Washington Anytime Library is a huge collection of e-books, digital magazines, digital graphic novels, and downloadable audiobooks that CSLD and other Washington libraries purchase together. OverDrive is the company we purchase from, and Libby is the app that makes it easy to borrow, read, and/or listen on your mobile device!

The basics:

  • CSLD patrons may check out 5 titles at once.
  • Titles are checked out for 2 weeks and returned automatically on the due date. There is an option to return them early.
  • Patrons may place up to 8 holds at once.
  • Washington Anytime Library titles are not included in CSLD's catalog. Once you have an account, you will find and borrow e-titles through Libby or Washington Anytime Library's website.

Getting started:

  • To create an account on your:
    • Mobile device: download Libby and follow the set-up instructions. 
    • Computer: go to the Washington Anytime Library website, click the green "Sign In" button, and follow the instructions to create an account.
  • When asked to select your library, choose "Central Skagit Sedro-Woolley Library."
  • You will need your CSLD library card number and PIN (last four digits of your phone number) to create your account.
  • Libby's "Preferences" allows you to tailor search results to different audiences (All/ Juvenile/ Young Adult/ General Content/ Mature Content).
Hoopla

hoopla offers movies, music, audiobooks, ebooks, comics and TV shows to enjoy on your computer, tablet, or phone – and even your TV! Titles can be streamed immediately, or downloaded to phones or tablets for offline enjoyment later. They offer hundreds of thousands of titles to choose from, with more being added daily. 

Access hoopla through the website or, if you prefer, download the hoopla Digital app from your app store. Set-up is easy, but help is available if you need it!

Ensuring that search results are age-appropriate for kids is as simple as clicking the "KIDSOFF / KIDSON" icon at the top of the screen.

Scholastic e-books for kids (& their adults!)

Scholastic's e-book offerings are web-based and always available; there's no need to download an app or check out titles. If you're using the library's WiFi or on a library computer, you don't even need to log on. Elsewhere, you'll need your library card number to log in.

All of these sources offer multi-media content, lesson plans, quizzes, related activities, and links to more information on the topic.

  • BookFlix - Pairs fictional picture books with non-fiction books on the same topic. Click the icon of an apple on a book at the top of the screen for lesson plans, etc..
  • FreedomFlix - Focuses on United States history but includes some books on ancient world history. Click "Resources and Tools" link at the top of the screen for lesson plans, etc.
  • ScienceFlix - Browseable, searchable collection of science books from Scholastic. Includes experiment ideas, information about science careers, and more! Click "Resources and Tools" link at the top of the screen for lesson plans, etc.
  • TrueFlix -  Covers too many non-fiction topics to list here! Click "Resources and Tools" link at the top of the screen for lesson plans, etc.

 

Freading

Freading offers e-books that are always available - no need to place holds and wait for the title you want! This service offers a wide array of titles in every genre and on almost every topic.

Set-up is a little complex, but the PDF iconGetting Started with Freading instructions will get you going. Have your library card number handy and remember that your PIN is the last four digits of your phone number.

Kanopy

Kanopy is an award-winning video streaming service providing access to more than 30,000 independent and documentary films ─ titles of unique social and cultural value from The Criterion Collection, The Great Courses, Media Education Foundation, and thousands of independent filmmakers.
